Rick has extensive experience in:
Nonqualified retirement and benefit plans, including deferred compensation plans, supplemental executive retirement plans, excess benefit plans, and specialized, state-of-the-art nonqualified plans.
The funding of corporate liabilities using a variety of investment strategies, including bank and corporate-owned life insurance, and mutual funds.
“Securing” assets using “Rabbi Trusts” and other security strategies.
Broad-based employee benefit plans, including life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
Prior Experience:
Prior to forming VerityPoint, Rick served for 14 years as a Senior Vice President of Clark Consulting, a national consulting firm that provided consulting, third-party administration, and brokerage services for executive benefits. Before joining Clark Consulting, Rick was an attorney in the Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin, Richter & Hampton, where he was a member of that firm’s tax, ERISA and corporate departments.
Community Involvement:
Rick has been involved in several community organizations, including a hospital foundation board, the Boy Scouts of America, and church and school organizations.
Education:
Rick received his B.S. from the University of Utah, M.Acc in Tax from Brigham Young University, and J.D. from the University of Utah. Later he earned his LL.M. in Tax from New York University.
Fun Fact:
For many years, Rick has been very involved in his children’s sports, especially those of his daughters, two of whom went on to compete in college. During that time, he learned the intricacies of their sports, tried to be a good cheerleader, and learned when to keep quiet on the sidelines.
